The Shining Star's Shadow

Shining so bright,
The brilliance hurts my eyes,
My best friend is a star,
Brought down from the sky above,
The golden girl to all,
I love her like a sister,
And she me,
But… sometimes,
I wish they would look at me,
Like they do at her,
Her light shines from her skin,
Leaving me in the shadows,
To be hidden from view,
To be hidden from the adoration,
It makes me sad sometimes when I think that,
No matter how hard I try,
No one would ever tear their gaze from her,
To even ask who I am,
It’s shallow but I wish that just once,
That people would know my name,
And treat me like a shining star,
But I will always remain,
The shining star’s shadow.
